Description

Alternate History - Australian Imperial Navy Uniform Code (1939)

Following the collapse of the British Empire in 1919 it's dominions begun to break away. Out of the ex-dominions Australia flourished and following a long civil war came out stronger than ever.

Australia has a long naval history. While the armies of the colonies was generally made up of British garrisons until the 1850s the navy has always been a local affair with the majority of the colonies having their own fleets. This is reflected in the Federation of Australia in 1901 where a full-time naval service was founded immediately. Cutting to my alternate Great War scenario, Australia still relies on a strong navy, the strongest and largest in the Asia-Pacific. Germany, as with the Australian Imperial Air Force and Australian Imperial Force, was the major contributor to Australian naval technology and doctrine. The uniforms are somewhat German however stay to the British-Australian traditions.

The Australian Imperial Navy (AIN) has the largest variety of uniforms in the entire Australian Armed Forces which reflects the service's huge versatility in role and operational range. The uniforms above belong to an Able Seaman Steward from the AINS Avenge, an Australian destroyer, of the East Indies Fleet. He comes from the Imperial State of Northern Australia.
